'Mineral water or Regular sir?' The waiter said, coming to our table.
'Mineral please..' I said as he left the table, 'I am saying that everyone doesn't needs to say 'Bharat Mata ki Jai'. Its not even written in the constitution' I said, continuing the deep discussion with my relatives on the new topic in town, 'Bharat Mata ki Jai'.
The controversy mill started when AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi said that he won't say 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' even if his neck is kept on a naked sword. The reason which he clarified was 'It is not written in the constitution'.
This spark turned into flames when the members of BJP and RSS commented on the statement, stating it 'anti-national'. What is funny is that Congress (I dont know I need to add some jokes here, Even saying 'Congress' can win you a laughter challenge nowadays) jumped in the discussion and terming Owaisi as 'Anti national'.
'Things are not like this. We are in power! We! Everyone needs to say 'Bharat mata ki jai'. Its something obvious. Even Mahatma Gandhi had said that' my uncle said as I cut him mid sentence.
'But Mahatma Gandhi never said that it was important or it can term your nationality. There are people who say 'Jai Hind' but not that Mata thing. What can you say about them? Are they Aunty national or uncle national?' I joked.
At that moment, food arrived and we stopped our discussion.
'We will carry the discussion next time' My uncle said as I sat in my car.
'Yes' I smiled as the car drove off.
I turned the TV on in my room. My brain still roaming in 'Bharat Mata ki jai'. I skipped to news channels and found a news report on Water crisis in Nandedh.
Nandedh, in Maharashtra is suffering from acute water crisis. The water supply was resumed after eight days. The report showed how people (old, young, kids) struggled with a bucket in their hands filling water. The water wasn't as clean as the one I had earlier this day, in the five star hotel.
The reporter narrated stories of locals, who struggled daily for water. I sat on the bed and saw the whole report for the next half and hour.
What struggle did I do to get that water other than uttering 'Mineral please'?
Why are these people struggling even though they live in the same country?
Let me get things straight, clear and bold.
'Bharat Mata ki jai' Is a shit topic to debate upon. It is not even to worth your phone's battery or that TOI app notification, let one the thing of being worth of your 'time'.
We, Indians are suffering from more problems than any other country. The only thing is that these problems are in disguise!
Our media focuses on Vijay Maliya, Owaisi and RSS removing 'shorts' from their unifrom instead of the topics of 'poverty', 'water scarcity' and even 'water emergency'.
I don't think any of you is aware of the fact that Latur (Maharashtra) has been declared with Water emergency with section 144 imposed due to riots! Riots... For water! Riots for something you never realized the value for... Riots for something you keep wasting!
As in all of my articles, I come up with solutions. The things what we can do probably to get out of this shit happening here is :
1. Ignoring: Remember how your first crush ignored you? I know most of you still remember. Ignoring the news of 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' and 'Vijay Maliya flying away to london' will only help us and give us time to think on other topics. Who cares if RSS removed Shorts from their uniform? Is that a fashion statement? Probably not.
2. Role of media: Media is the 4th pillar of democracy. The main function of media is to aware the citizens of the problems and come up with a solution. Yes, coming up with a solution which never is seen in the programmes that come on air in the prime time. I know you have heard endless shouts on 'News hour' but have you ever heard a voice that comes up with a solution? You never will, until Arnab stops discussing things and instead focuses on real shit.
And last but not the least
3. Our role in the society: We, Indians are very good at solving problems provided they are of others. We keep discussing shit topics and wasting our time instead questioning ourself. What have you done for the country instead changing your DP on Republic and Independence Day or uploading a nation loving status that was probably copy pasted from Google. We need to discuss water crisis which is more important than Vijay Maliya.
Coming to the topic again, Say Bharat Mata ki Jai or not, you are an Indian and will remain Indian always.
Afterall call her maa or call her mom, she is what she is and won't become your aunt instead!
